Answer: General public, Professionals in mental health, social psychology, education, business, and other agents of change.

Q: What is the book about?
A: The book explores the effects of today’s accelerated pace of change on our psychological, personal, social and political life, and provides evidence that creativity and relationship/networking skills are core competencies for success in 21st century life.

Research shows that people can acquire the “stress-resilient thinking skills” and creative capacities needed to navigate this complex, inter-connected and ever-changing social landscape. This book explores the impact of cultural, economic and political forces on our sense of self, relationships and ways of thinking, and the power that each of us possess to shape our collective future.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Creative Arts Therapist and Certified Group Psychotherapist who has been active as an agent of change for 27 years; both in my professional life as a therapist, trainer and writer/performer and in my personal commitment to psychological growth and community service.

As a creative arts therapist working in the medical model, I have always had to break through systemic barriers and conventional thinking to establish the validity of my holistic approach.

My experiences working with a broad range of humanity – from the chronically mentally ill in homeless shelters and psychiatric hospitals at one end of the success spectrum to staff of large organizations (e.g. The New York Public Library) and agencies going through massive institutional change at the other – have provided me a real-time view of the ways social trends impact peoples’ inner and outer lives.

From the very beginning of my career I have designed presentations and workshops that engage professionals and non-professionals in creative ways of thinking that challenge stagnant, but deeply-ingrained habits of mind that are simply not adequate to meet the challenges of 21st century life.

I have published in academic journals on the topic of creativity in the process of personal change and social transformation, and have been interviewed for articles about creativity, stress-resilience, and other creativity and arts-related themes that appeared in Women’s Day magazine, New York Newsday, L.A. Times, Recovery Press, Boomers magazine, and other publications.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: This book is different from other books about creativity and the knowledge economy in 21st century life in that it integrates research and information from the worlds of social psychology with marketing, business, and finance to form a more complete picture of the range of social forces that influence our psychological and emotional lives.

It combines knowledge about the ways that advertising and consumer culture are changing our brains and the way we experience life, as well as the brain chemistry and neurological joyride that is creative experience. What separates this book from others about creativity and 21st century life is the inclusion of a wide range of studies connecting the fragmented, compartmentalized knowledge about creativity, connection and consciousness.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: Some key points:

• The ways that advertising, media pressures, and other aspects of high-tech society influence our worldview and habits of mind;

• Social capital and its relationship to mental and physical health, stress-resilience and sustainability in the future;

• Music in brain development, health and social connection;

• The ways that consumer culture continually redesigns what it means to have a good-enough life, with impacts on our sense of self, family life, and health.

• How arts training, creative development, and creative experiences grow the brain, strengthen psychological resilience and the dynamic interactions between our personal choices and the direction of our future.

Answer: The intended audience for the book is leaders within any size corporations, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and colleges/universities. Because many universities and colleges focus on management from a theoretical and philosophical perspective, rather than the leadership continuum as a process, the audience will now have a framework of understanding to gain from. The book will provide answers for those with the ever looming questions: Are you the leader you could be, should be, or ought to be? Are you knowledgeable of the leadership tools that you must have to reach the next level of success?

Q: What is the book about?
A: Ted Gee’s powerful, new ‘how to’ book is not more of the same. It is about changing the way you think and the outcomes you can expect in your business venture or corporate role.

Hope is something that everyone wants to happen. It does not mean that it will happen or that there are plans in place to ensure the success of a desired goal. The major responsibility of a leader is to transform hope or vision to a reality. Hope Is Not a Strategy will provide leaders with clarity of what they are responsible for in any business at every level, and the tools necessary for them to be successful.

All businesses have the same formula for success and that is strong leadership and effective processes while engaging the workforce. Whether it is a fast food restaurant, a manufacturing company, a service company, hospitals , school system, entrepreneurial effort, entertainment business, or governmental agency the formula is the same. Hope Is Not a Strategy will assist by providing the tools to transform hope to a reality.

Section One, LEADERSHIP is designed to help you to understand the roles of leaders at all levels of the leadership continuum and the responsibilities inherent with each level. In addition to defining what leadership is and what leaders do, we will also explore where they may come from.

In this section we will discuss Time In Grade pitfalls of leadership and other quick fixes for organizations such as the Silver Bullet that many leaders seek when finding root causes to problems and long term solutions are not the objective. At the end of this section we will look at the interdependencies of leadership and process.

Section Two, THE ORGANIZATIONAL JOURNEY is packed with information and tools essential for you as a leader that ensures you have a clearly defined direction for your organization and most importantly a plan of execution. We will explain vision, and mission, and show you how to create a holistic strategy for any organization. You will learn how to objectively examine the Current State of Business and to set up a Business Operating System utilizing such tools as Lean and Six Sigma. The After Action Review process and communication methods are taught in this section for leaders seeking a learning organization.

There is also an APPENDIX loaded with information to assist you with your journey to success as a leader.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I have a proven background of leadership, starting as a front line supervisor, and progressing to division president of multibillion dollar corporation, and Chief Operating Officer. I am also a process innovation expert utilizing such tools as lean and six sigma. I am currently president of Success Based Interventions a/k/a SBI, which helps organizations become the best that they can be, should be, oughta be, utilizing the principles of the book. Having a background stepped with practical experience of change, transformation and growth during these tough economic times provides credibility.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: This book provides actual prescriptions for complex business problems. It is a how to manual from someone that has practical experience instead of primarily theory and philosophy.

Answer:
•People on a spiritual journey, both beginners and experienced travelers.
•People struggling with work/life balance.
•Those seeking their authentic purpose in life and work.
•Leaders who want to get ego out of the way and lead with humility.
•Teachers and school administrators.
•Those who want to communicate more truthfully.

Q: What is the book about?
A: This book is about what I learned from a 10-year spiritual journal that began with intense pain and culminated in peace and joy. It contains stories of transformation from my own life, as well as the lives of my clients. Also, it contains tools and processes, drawn from neuroscience, systems thinking, recovery, and spirituality, that assisted these transformations.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: Basically I’m a skeptic. I’m well trained in using mental processes, and it is challenging—extremely challenging—for me to let go of my well developed problem-solving capabilities and take the path of faith, honoring my feelings and intuitive sense as a guide. In other words, if I can do it, anyone can.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: It isn’t limited to my own story, and it’s more than a self-help book. It’s a toolkit, a map for those who want to make the journey from head to heart, and a reference book for living meaningfully.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: It’s the culmination of 10 years of work on my part. My heart’s desire is that what I’ve learned might make this journey shorter and less painful for others.

Answer: People close to retiring or those who have recently retired.

Q: What is the book about?
A: The book is about developing the attitude to make your retirement years the best years of your life. There’s no time to waste figuring it out. This book helps you sort through choices that need to be made with many references to go with it. It is humorous, easy to read but important information for those who aren’t sure what the retirement future holds. It is NOT a book about finances.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: After retiring, it took me over a year to “get it.” I want to help others get a jump start and not have to figure it out. The clock is ticking.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: Most books about retirement have to do with financial planning. I would be the last one to take advice from on that subject. This is about the attitude needed…and, it’s funny.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: It makes a great retirement gift. Once people buy it or receive it, they come back to buy it in quantity.

Answer: Anyone who wants to actively take control of their life and define success in terms that mean something to them, and not let someone else determine their terms of success.

Q: What is the book about?
A: This book is part business autobiography and part motivational/inspirational. It shows how I succeeded in the world’s largest and most competitive market (as a one person consultancy) by defining the rules I live by. Then, by living life on my own terms, being truthful and candid, I became one of the most relied on and influential voices in marketing to the government. It demonstrates the many ways ideas can present themselves to you and how you can use these ideas to expand your business horizons.
Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I am the only person to write this as it is my journey. While the rules I have chosen are not necessarily new, my way of presenting them has been equated to Steve Covey’s habits being presented by Conan the Barbarian: easy to follow, no nonsense, with a heavy dose of attitude.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: Confidence, attitude, results and impact. The Amtower attitude (seen in my writing, ezine, and interviews), heard on my radio shows and in my speeches. The results achieved by me, my clients and those I have mentored over the years. The combined impact of each of these and the resulting confidence displayed in all aspects of my life.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: Anyone interested in leading a successful, ethics-based life: those starting a career and those stuck in a rut in the middle of a career; those who manage and those who may want to manage; those ready for a career change and downsized who need to be reminded that they retain value.

Answer: Anyone who is looking for work for the first time, or after an extended period of unemployment. This is great for those looking for entry-level or re-entry jobs. It is also an ideal resource for staff and agencies who help the unemployed get back to work.

Q: What is the book about?
A: This is a straightforward guide to get employed in ‘the real world’ no matter what choices or circumstances have held you back in the past. This book answers the difficult questions that come up when you’re trying to turn your life around by getting back to work and becoming self-supporting.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: With seventeen years experience in Workforce Development, I’ve worked with a wide variety of clients and staff to help more people overcome barriers to employment and get back to work. I’ve worked with clients returning to work after caring for parents/children, disability, welfare, jail/prison and gang involvement. Staff and clients from state, county and private agencies have been to my seminars. I’ve worked as an employee and as an employer, and write from both sides of the hiring process.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A; While most books on this topic are long and politically correct, The Working Workbook is short, sweet, to-the-point and refreshingly honest.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: Since I use an easy-to-read workbook format, it is easy for readers to come up with their own answers to the challenging questions which will come up on applications and in interviews.

Answer: Women (and some men!) who are looking for a way to start a flexible career in their chosen field.

Q: What is the book about?
A: Women today are looking for ways to maintain or build a flexible career while they have a family. Full-Time Woman, Part-Time Career is the first book of its kind to bridge this gap for professional women who do not want to set up a “typical” home-based business selling kitchen accessories or cosmetics. This book teaches women what they need to do in order to set up their business and get started, set their rates, market themselves and their services, and gain new clients and grow their business. The result is that women can build a flexible home-based business in as little as two years, so that they can have the time they need to work from home while raising a family.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: For 11 years, Karen Steede Terry has been self-employed as a sought-after independent consultant and software instructor. Her rich knowledge and firsthand experience results in a very practical book filled with advice, tips, and “how-to” information for women who want to start a business or go out on their own.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: Most other books on starting a home-based business feature “party-planning” businesses that require you to sell products to family and friends. Full-Time Woman, Part-Time Career is different because it is written specifically for professional, technical, and career-oriented women who want to start a business in their existing field using their unique skills and abilities. It bridges the gap for these women who struggle with the question of how to raise a family while maintaining a career.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: Full-Time Woman, Part-Time Career has been extremely well-received. It has been featured on Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s nationally syndicated radio show, and the author has been interviewed on numerous radio stations. Most recently Karen was the featured story on CBS news:
Answer: Coaches, trainers, leaders, mental health practitioners and spirtiual/religious gurus–anyone interested in changing human behavior sustainably in some “enlightened” or evolved way.

Q: What is the book about?
A: It is a self-help book about the self-help industry—how to navigate through the half-truths of change and success that riddle this industry and leave people not knowing the difference between what makes sense and what is true. Nowhere before in human history has knowing the difference between what is seemingly important and essential been so crucial.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I am a Renaissance man—neuropsychologist, performance coach, systems thinker, philosopher of science—and have studied how we know what we know and how critical the “meta” level of understanding and the brain is on any game plan for success. No Tony Robbins coach or motivational speaker does this…

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: It is not about the “goals”, plans, visions, etc for success…it is about the unlearnings of our illusions that make us FEEL as if we know how to get there…there is too much information for the sake of information being given and no concentration on reality.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: It features a Foreword by NY Times bestselling author Tom Morris (If Aristotle Ran General Motors) and has received much praise and endorsements by bestselling authors and gurus:
She founded Conari Press and is currently an executive coach, the life coach columnist for Health, a contributing editor at Good Housekeeping and a popular speaker.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: No other book combines the science of change, brain science real life stories and practical tips in one easy to read package.
