More Senior Moments - Getting The Most Our Of Your Golden Years, By David Wayne Silva

Posted by Dan Janal | February 22nd, 2008

Question: Who is the intended audience?
Answer: Senior Citizens, baby boomers, children who are caregivers for their parents, and caregivers who work with seniors.

Q: What is the book about?
A: This book and its predecessor Senior Moments Are self help guides to lead senior citizens through both the good and the difficult days of the aging process. The book is filled with stories and positive suggestions that provide solutions to problems common to seniors. It encourages seniors to follow their doctor’s advice and to work with their caretakers to improve their health and living conditions. Depression, loneliness, loss of independence, chronic illness, pain, and poor self image are common problems discussed in the book. Seniors are urged to accept the challenges of aging.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I spent 48 years working as a teacher, school administrator, and family and grief counselor and over the years worked with countless senior citizens. I have been a counselor for seniors in my community for the past eight years. I also took care of my wife’s mother and father and saw them through their aging years. I am seventy eight year old man, so I have an understanding of the problems that accompany aging.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: This book is unique in that it was written by a senior for seniors. Many of the books on this subject are written by younger people with a PHD, but who have never worked with seniors. One senior woman’s comment stays in my mind, “At last. A book for seniors written by someone who has been there and done that.”

This book is different from other similar books in that it also deals with spirituality for seniors. The book is not a book on religion, but there are reference to the power of spirituality and prayer in our lives. It talks about the good days and the bad days, and is positive in its approach to life. This book was also a finalist in the National Best Books 2007 Award.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?

A: The book is filled with much self help wisdom. It contains both serious and humorous stories that illustrate positive attitudes for seniors to emulate, and is filled with much useful information focusing on a board range of senior problems. More Senior Moments is available most online stores such as Amazon.com and Outskirtspress.com. It can also be purchased by your local book store if it is not on the shelf.

ReFired Not Retired…Reignite Your Zest For Life, By Phyllis May

Posted by Dan Janal | January 21st, 2008

Question: Who is the intended audience?
Answer: People close to retiring or those who have recently retired.

Q: What is the book about?
A: The book is about developing the attitude to make your retirement years the best years of your life. There’s no time to waste figuring it out. This book helps you sort through choices that need to be made with many references to go with it. It is humorous, easy to read but important information for those who aren’t sure what the retirement future holds. It is NOT a book about finances.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: After retiring, it took me over a year to “get it.” I want to help others get a jump start and not have to figure it out. The clock is ticking.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: Most books about retirement have to do with financial planning. I would be the last one to take advice from on that subject. This is about the attitude needed…and, it’s funny.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: It makes a great retirement gift. Once people buy it or receive it, they come back to buy it in quantity.
