Pitch reporters with our up-to-date media databases:

Question: Who is the intended audience?
Answer: This book is for everyone who finds themselves in financial distress – most of us at one time or another.

This includes:

  • Young people who have recently moved away from the safety of their parents’ homes and aren’t quite sure what hit them when they can’t make it financially.
  • Older people on fixed incomes who don’t know how they can ever hope to break even every month.
  • Families reeling from catastrophic accidents or illness, some with medical bills larger than their annual income.
  • The suddenly unemployed, facing a frightening new world with no regular paycheck.
  • Compulsive spenders who shopped their way into trouble, as well as responsible, hard workers who can’t seem to win for losing.
  • Parents, teachers, and friends of any of the above groups.

Q: What is the book about?
A: Help! I Can’t Pay My Bills shows readers how to survive an immediate financial crisis with their self-respect and credit rating intact. For anyone having financial troubles, it answers key questions such as:

  • How can I get help with catastrophic medical bills?
  • Where can I find cash I didn’t know I had?
  • What bills should I pay first?
  • What should I tell creditors when they call?
  • How can I track down my ex and get overdue child support?
  • How do I create a plan for reaching my financial goals?

I help people face their financial challenges head on and make a plan to overcome them. This book can help anyone facing money problems learn to live without dreading their bills or feeling anxious about money.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I became interested in money and how it affects people’s lives when I was a teenager. I saw that either people controlled their money, or their money controlled them.

After working in public accounting, I joined Microsoft Corporation in the personal finance division. As a writer and consultant for Microsoft Money, a personal finance software program, I helped to improve the program and make it meet the real needs of users. I have written articles for Microsoft TaxSaver and the Microsoft Work Essentials website, and I regularly contribute to MSN Money online.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: Personal finance publishers have been reaching out to the “getting started” crowd in the last few years. Readers can now find a number of books that promise to help them at specific life stages. They can also find books narrowly focused on getting out of debt. Most books, however, still focus on lifetime financial planning and investing. They may not meet the needs of a person who, regardless of age, just needs to get through this month without having the utilities turned off. Readers can find several existing categories of personal finance books, including comprehensive personal finance guides, personal finance guides for young adults, and debt reduction and credit repair books. None, however, offer the focused yet comprehensive information that Help! I Can’t Pay My Bills provides people with acute financial needs.

If over one million American families every year are driven to file for bankruptcy, how many more are in some level of financial distress and are looking for help? These people don’t need a complete personal finance course, nor do they need a book only about getting out of debt or pinching pennies. They need a book written specifically to help them right now—a step-by-step guide to surviving a financial crisis.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: Unlike some personal finance books, this is a friendly, readable book. It includes lots of stories to show people that they are not alone – that other people have been through financial crises, too, and have survived.

Cholesterol Down: Ten simple steps to lower your cholesterol in four weeks—without prescription drugs (Random House/Crown Publishing, December, 2006) by Janet Bond Brill, Ph.D., R.D., LDN, one of the country’s leading nutrition, diet, health and fitness experts.

Question: Who is the intended audience?
Answer: All Americans are at risk for heart attacks and stroke, so everyone, young and old, should be eating heart-healthy foods and exercising. My Cholesterol Down Plan was written like a “diet” book. If you follow the plan, you will see results in 4 weeks, namely, your LDL cholesterol will decrease significantly.

There are 3 main groups of people who will benefit the most from following the Cholesterol Down Plan:

1. Those otherwise healthy Americans with high LDL cholesterol that are unwilling to begin taking prescription cholesterol-lowering medication (for a lifetime) to treat their high cholesterol.

2. Those individuals with high LDL cholesterol that have tried taking physician-prescribed statin medication but simply can not tolerate the side effects.

3. Those individuals already taking prescription cholesterol-lowering medication that have not reached their LDL goal and are concerned about increasing the dosage (the risk of significant side effects increases at higher dosages). Combining my Cholesterol Down Plan with prescription medication will boost statin success.

Q: What is the book about?
A: I am a professional nutritionist and exercise physiologist specializing in cardiovascular disease prevention, health and fitness. I began to notice a pattern of anecdotal reports among my patients. Many had high cholesterol and were either unwilling to begin taking a “lifetime” medication or else had tried various statin cholesterol-lowering medications and were unable to tolerate the debilitating side effects. I was repeatedly asked if there was a “natural” alternative to lowering “bad” cholesterol. On a different note, however, what really peaked my interest in “natural combination therapy” is more of a personal story. My own father had his first heart attack at age 45 (a major risk factor for me). He died of a heart attack several years later. Naturally I became concerned when a couple of years ago my own “bad” cholesterol reading was abnormally high (which was shocking news to me as I am a marathon runner who has been a semi-vegetarian for decades). At this same time, there happened to be some new cutting edge scientific research that involved combining several foods (all scientifically proven to lower cholesterol individually) together on a daily basis. The combination of the foods magnifies the cholesterol-lowering effect such that it equates with the cholesterol-lowering effect of statin medication, only without the side effects! I formulated my own plan using 10 steps in conjunction with a Mediterranean-style of eating. The LDL-lowering results were simply miraculous both in myself and with my patients. I decided to write the book to help others benefit from my Cholesterol Down Plan and hopefully to help people prevent cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in men and women in this country and the Western world.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I am an expert in the field of cardiovascular disease prevention and I have tried and tested this diet and exercise plan on myself and my patients and it works! What’s more, it is meticulously researched and based on sound scientific information…a rarity among the plethora of diet books on the market.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?

A: *Based on the new cutting edge science of natural combination therapy.

  1. Written by a true expert in the field of diet, nutrition and health.
  2. Written in the form of a “diet book,” follow the program and you will have measurable results in just 4 weeks.
  3. Includes tools to help you stay on track: a daily checklist, 2 weeks of sample menus (including eating out at popular restaurants), and over 100 delicious Mediterranean-inspired healthy recipes that taste great and are easy to make.
  4. Other books on cholesterol and health are filled with boring information that overloads readers with dry, technical information. Cholesterol Down is a simple, well-written and easy-to-follow plan that really works!

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: People need to become aware of the powerful effect that simple foods and light exercise can have on preventing disease. We should all heed the wise words of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine (460-377 BC), “Let food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be thy food.”

Q: What inspired you to write this book?

A: I fell in love with Ayurveda, India’s 5,000 year old Science of Life – and applied these principles to the health of our relationships. This is the first book ever about Ayurveda and Relationships!

Free quiz to determine your dosha, or ayurvedic mind/body type: http://www.whatsyourdosha.com

Q: What else can you tell us about this topic?

A: An exciting new way to look at compatibility and relationships that will inspire people around the world to start asking “What¹s your dosha, baby?”

Quentin Tarantino is a Vata. Sharon Stone is a Pitta. Jennifer Lopez is a Kapha. What does that tell you about these celebrities? If you know about Ayurveda, it tells you a lot! It can even help to predict which celebrity love matches will last, and which will be more tested by life¹s natural challenges.

Thousands of years ago, philosophers and scientists in ancient India devised a system called Ayurveda, or “the science of life,” which explains the nature of everything in the universe. Now, in What’s Your Dosha, Baby? I apply this ancient wisdom to modern-day relationships, offering readers an exciting new way to measure their compatibility with lovers, friends, coworkers, and family and arming them with the insight they need to make all their relationships work.

After taking the quiz to determine one’s personal dosha‹one of three personality types based on physical features and personality traits‹readers can learn how their dosha interacts with the others, their physical and emotional communication styles, instinctual preferences regarding food, travel, lifestyle, and work, fun ways to spice up your sex life and much more. Perfect for those looking to end the squabbling with their mate, resolve a conflict with their boss, or get the man or woman of their dreams to commit, What’s Your Dosha, Baby? will help readers find true happiness and achieve great success in life, love, and relationships.

It wasn’t too long ago that people would strike up a conversation with “What’s your sign?” Before astrology became popular in the 60′s and 70′s we would have had no idea what “sign” was being referred to: stop, yield, no trespassing? Eventually the vernacular of the ancient Greeks became a part of our everyday vocabulary, and today we can grasp the difference between a Capricorn and an Aquarius.

Now it seems everything old is new again! With the rise in popularity of all things Eastern, I’ve found a way for us find love in our lives with Ayurveda. With Ayurveda, we can wade through the dating pool with a lot more information that we can use to make better decisions about who we get involved with, or don¹t get involved with. With just a basic understanding of Ayurveda, we have a short-cut for getting to know each other.

Cherie Carter-Scott, Ph.D., the New York Times bestselling author, agrees. Of Coffey’s book she says: “Applying ancient wisdom to modern-day relationships is beautifully executed by Lissa Coffey in her book, What’s Your Dosha, Baby? She not only shows you what type you are best suited for, she also shows strengths, compatibilities, and potential challenges. Read this before you make any personal relationship commitments!”

Ayurveda can also be used as a tool to deepen a relationship, and to encourage intimacy. Each dosha responds differently to sensual stimuli. Ayurveda has suggestions for various seductive techniques for each dosha. We can get really close to our partners this way.

“What’s your sign, baby?” became the catch-phrase of the 1970′s after Linda Goodman’s “Love Signs” popularized astrology, and I hope that people today will be asking “What¹s your dosha, baby?” and enjoying the many benefits of Ayurveda thanks to her efforts. “Deepak Chopra really started this whole trend, but I truly believe that Ayurveda is the next big thing. If you haven’t heard of it yet, now you have!”
