The Charon Covenant, By Brenda Munday Gifford

Posted by Dan Janal, Your Fearless PR LEADER | February 27th, 2008

Pitch reporters with our up-to-date media databases:

Question: Who is the intended audience?
Answer: Science Fiction and Fantasy readers from ages 18 and up. For those who like classic science fiction or fantasy with a sense of mystery and adventure. Even though it is classic sci-fi, it also has its share of action, drama and suspense. There is some appeal as well through the use and development of the strong female heroin for those who read standard fiction; along with the family dynamics and relationships that develop.

Q: What is the book about?
A: The protagonist, Dara Drew’s son is born on the moon colony; she is told he has died; her disbelief launches her into a series of events that uncovers the secret of what is happening on the moon. She has a few days to find her son and save him from the clutches of the alien Inner Circle. The group she gathers together discovers an alien race is taking over control of the moon and its inhabitants. Charles, the father of her closest friend, explains that their only hope is to escape the planet. Although the group believes it’s a suicide mission, they agree it is their only hope.

Dara discovers and learns to draw from an e.s.p. ability that she uses to defend herself, as well as, uses it to make contact with an alien woman who will guide her through all she has to face.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: There is no one else that could. It is drawn from my personal dreams, feelings, experiences and beliefs. This mixed with my love of science fiction and the possibilities of what’s out there on other planets, made it a very personal journey.

It is written from my point of view. Although many others share my point of view on pollution or people’s complacency and lack of action, they couldn’t have mixed it with my personal challenges.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: There are strong female protagonists emerging more and more in science fiction, movies and other genres as well. The difference is bringing in the family dimension and personalities to make you care about the characters, which makes you pull for them as they go through their trials and tribulations. It is not just about the space travel or alien battles, it’s about people struggling to survive. I love books and movies where I feel exhausted at the end from helping the heroes make it through.

This book uses rich characters to pull the reader in and make them connect to the people and want to help them through their challenges. I have a strong female protagonist in a story that uses her fight to save her son as a catalyst for her to go from a wife and mother to a warrior. The evolution of the main character is what drives the story and makes this story unique yet still filled with the usual sci-fi mythology. This growth will continue in the next 2 books as well.

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: I have tried to take science facts and mix them with science fiction; which I believe all good science fiction should do. The reader will find many parallels between the problems we face in our world and country today and what my characters battle through.

Strategies: A Chronic Fatigue Syndrome And Fibromyalgia Journey, By Dr. Tami Brady

Posted by Dan Janal, Your Fearless PR LEADER | February 21st, 2008

Pitch reporters with our up-to-date media databases:

Q: Who is the intended audience?
A: I wrote my story specifically to share with those individuals, like myself, living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and/or Fibromyalgia. Nonetheless, friends, family members, and colleagues of those suffering from these conditions will also find the information in this book very valuable in understanding not only the symptoms of these health issues but also the psychological effects of chronic disease.

Q: What is the book about?
A: Strategies: A Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Journey is my story: how I came to a more peaceful place and the struggles that I continue to work through each day. Those of you with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia will likely see yourself in my experiences. Although the symptoms and the paths to find balance and contentment might differ, having these health issues impacts life in ways that could never have been previously imagined even in the wildest of dreams (or nightmares as the case may be). In the end, these experiences change everything.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I am one individual in a growing epidemic. In 1997, after a chaotic year of intense medical and psychological testing, I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I spent much of the last ten years in deep denial feeling alone, confused, frustrated, and angry. It has taken me a great deal of soul searching, but I believe that today I am a better, more centered person because of my experiences.

Q: How is this book different from other books on this topic?
A: “This book is a passionate, intense account of one person’s conquest over suffering. As a psychologist working with chronic pain sufferers, I can endorse Ms. Brady’s philosophy, approach and tools.”
-Bob Rich, PhD, author Cancer: A Personal Challenge

Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I already had two friends who had serious cases of it. When the doctor gave me eight prescriptions to help me deal with the symptoms, I decided that it was time to quit my stressful job and focus on recovering my health. I saw so many similarities between Ms. Brady’s journey and my own.”
-Paige Lovitt for Reader Views

Q: Is there anything else we should know about this book?
A: Strategies: A Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Journey is available at Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and other fine retailers.

Stop Being Pushed Around: A Practical Guide, By Lynda Bevan

Posted by Dan Janal, Your Fearless PR LEADER | February 19th, 2008

Pitch reporters with our up-to-date media databases:

Question: Who is the intended audience?
Answer: This is an easy to read and apply self-help book. It is suitable for anyone experiencing problems in their relationships whether that is at home or at work. Stop Being Pushed around: A Practical Guide is a tool for people to utilize if they believe that they are stuck in a rut and who feel unable to move on and progress in their relationships. It is a down to earth, commonsense book which is void of jargon.

Q: What is the book about?
A: The book is about the role of victim and survivor in relationships.

A ‘victim’ is someone who believes they have no control of their life.
A ‘victim’ believes that he/she can do nothing right.
A ‘victim’ believes that no-one really cares for them.
A ‘victim’ is always negative.
A ‘victim’ is waiting for someone to rescue them.
A ‘victim’ puts pressure on their partner to make everything all-right for them.
A ‘victim’ opts out of life.
A ‘victim’ is fearful.
A ‘victim’ is insecure.
A ‘victim’ is usually depressed or anxious.
A ‘victim’ feels under constant threat of something bad happening.
A ‘victim’ sabotages positive thinking and behavior.
A ‘victim’ is distrustful.
A ‘victim’ waits for disasters to occur.
A ‘victim’ will have emotional problems.
A ‘victim’ may turn to drugs or alcohol as a means of escape.
A ‘victim’ will be isolated from friends and family.
A ‘victim’ will withdraw from real life.

Q: Why are you the best person to write this book?
A: I have lived my life as a victim for many years. I have learned ‘the hard way’ how to stop being a victim and transfer to being a survivor. It is an empowering journey of self discovery.

I have been a mental health professional for 25 years. For the first 15 years I was employed by the Social Services Department in the UK and for remaining 10 years I worked as a Counselor in the primary healthcare setting. I have counseled countless numbers of people, during this period, who have become victims in their relationships.

All of the people I counseled didn’t realize that they were victims and believed that they had no control over their lives. Progressing from victim to survivor requires hard work on the part of the victim. It is achievable and the rewards are great. You are no longer under the control of another person. You are free to think and be the way you really are deep down without experiencing the pressure of control from your partner.

To find out is you are a victim please answer these questions.

· Do you feel able to discuss issues in your relationship with your partner?
· Does your partner ridicule you, humiliate you?
· Does your partner ‘play up’ if you are invited out with friends?
· Does your partner hold the financial purse strings in your relationship?
· Do you tend to agree with your partner rather than face the aggressive outcome if you do not agree?
· Does your happiness in your relationship depend on your partner’s mood?
· Do you feel trapped in your relationship?
· Do you think that you should stay in the relationship because you believe you cannot cope alone?
· Are you afraid of your partner?

Here are some examples of positive responses a victim can choose to make on how to deal with living with someone who, you feel, is controlling you:

· Take control of you and your life.
· Don’t be afraid to show your feelings. Learn when it is appropriate to do this.
· Encourage open discussions, to enable you both to have a better understanding of each other’s point of view.
· Realise you are never going to get it right so stop trying.
· Be reasonable, flexible and fair in your responses – but know when enough is enough (you will know when this happens by the feeling in your gut that screams – stop).
· Treat yourself kindly.
· Acknowledge how much you have achieved.
· Don’t be afraid to recognise your needs, wants and desires – you have a right to them.
· Accept that you ‘can’t have it all’ but make sure you ‘get some.’
· Take charge of you and know that any change you want to achieve in your life is up to you.
